It looks like Cleveland Browns fans are going to get to celebrate a win this season after all. The fan-organized parade this past weekend celebrating the team's very bad 0-16 record raised over $17,000 to donate to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. Along with non-perishable donations, that will account for around 70,000 meals, according to Cleveland.com's Hayden Grove.
The fact the parade was going to be held at all sparked a bit of controversy. Certain Browns players, like defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah, saw it as disrespectful and urged fans not to attend.
Despite all of the protest, between 2,500 and 3,000 fans reportedly made their way to FirstEnergy Stadium on Jan. 6 to take part in the celebration of anti-success. LeBron James even commented on the parade saying he "got a kick out of it" and claiming fans showing their displeasure with a parade is a much better alternative than them boycotting the team altogether.
Seeing how much good came from the Browns losing every single game in an entire season, maybe it isn't so bad that the team is hot garbage after all. Usually, it would be courteous to at least wish the Browns fans luck next season in notching at least one win but if more money can be raised for the food bank again next year following another zero win effort, here's to another 0-16 season, Cleveland.
