Speaking to the FIFA Congress on the eve of the World Cup in São Paolo, Sepp Blatter was at his nuttiest. Already dealing with an unsettled host nation, serious corruption charges and human rights issues surrounding the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and a direct opposition from UEFA to Blatter's desire for another term as FIFA president, the 78-year-old's address was one of no fucks to give. Try not to laugh at these quotes:

  • “FIFA is shaping society. My vision for FIFA in this changing world is that we must become one of today’s pioneers of hope."
  • "We must carry that flame of honesty, responsibility and always of respect. If not, we will betray the spirit of this game we love.”
  • “Football is about freedom, equality and respect. People have the right to want a better world for their children to grow up in.” (No mention was made of the children of over 1,000 migrant workers who have died working on 2022 World Cup construction projects.)
  • "We shall wonder if one day our game is played on another planet? Why not? Then we will have not only a World Cup we will have inter-planetary competitions. Why not?”

Blatter didn't address any of the aforementioned problems, but he did end his speech by saying, “The party is about to begin." As of print, there's been no word on Mars' bid for the 2030 World Cup.
