Former Seahawks and Ravens Player Alex Collins Dead at 28

The 2016 fifth-round pick played five seasons in the NFL before joining the USFL earlier this year.

Former NFL running back Alex Collins has passed away at the age of 28.

His death was the result of a motorcycle accident on Sunday night in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida.

TMZ reports via the Broward County Sheriff's Office Traffic Homicide Unit that a woman in a Chevy Suburban seems to have driven into Collins’ lane while making a turn, “causing him to strike the rear passenger side of the SUV” on his Suzuki GSX-600K.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.

Collins was selected in the fifth round by the Seattle Seahawks in 2016 NFL Draft. The Seahawks shared the following post in response to the news of his passing, writing, "Absolutely heartbroken. Prayers are with the Collins family."

Collins posted career highs in carries (212) and rushing yards (973) the following year as a member of the Baltimore Ravens. A statement from the Ravens remembered who Collins was a personal level.

"Always quick to greet everyone with a smile, he was a genuinely kind person who carried a special joy and passion wherever he went," the message reads.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh delivered a separate statement, reflecting on what he will remember most about the time he spent with Collins. "I'll always remember him for being a great teammate who had an uplifting spirit that impacted everyone he encountered," Harbaugh said.

He added, "He was also a smart player who ran with unlimited determination, and he contributed to a lot of our success during his time in Baltimore."

Before making it to the NFL, Collins played his collegiate ball at Arkansas, rushing for over 1,000 yards in each of his three years. His alma mater released its own statement in light of his passing, calling him "a legendary Razorback and an even better person" whose "love for the Razorbacks and desire to be a Hog was undeniable."
