In a deal that seemingly came out of nowhere, the Los Angeles Clippers are sending Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons in a blockbuster deal, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The Clippers will receive Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic, a first and second-rounder in exchange for Griffin, Brice Johnson, and Willie Reed.

Wojnarowski broke down the protections put in place for the Pistons' first-round pick.

Sources: Protections on Detroit's 2018 first-round pick headed to Clippers -- 2018: 1-4; 2019: 1-4; 2020: 1-4; 2021: unprotected. Detroit will send a 2019 second-round pick in the trade too.

Wojnarowski suggests that the Clippers will also look to acquire "packages of young players and picks" for DeAndre Jordan and Lou Williams prior to the February 8 trade deadline. While it's easy to classify this Griffin deal as part of potential fire sale for the Clippers, who are currently in 9th place in the Western Conference with a 25-24 record, this move comes across as buyer's remorse for the organization.

Last July, Griffin signed a five-year, $173 million contract extension with the Clippers under the expectation that he would be the face of the organization. However, the franchise may have realized this season that when he isn't saddled with an injury that keeps him off the court for an extended period of time, the five-time All-Star is becoming a headache with his issues on and off the court. Griffin was the one responsible for blowing the whole feud with the Houston Rockets out of proportion this season. Back in 2016, Blake suffered a fracture in his hand after punching the team's former assistant equipment manager Matias Testi.

Upon learning that he's been traded to the Pistons, Griffin responded on Twitter with a simple GIF.
