Conor McGregor might not be a seasoned boxer, but he is no stranger to accepting a challenge. Recently, boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya went on the State of Combat with Brian Campbell podcast to talk when boxing might return in a post-coronavirus world. During the conversation, De La Hoya said that he thinks he could handle McGregor in a boxing ring.
"Oh come on, brother. Two rounds," De La Hoya said in regards to boxing McGregor. "One thing about me is I went for the kill, always. Look, McGregor — I love him in the Octagon, I respect him, I watch him all the time. The boxing ring is a whole different story"
A week after the interview aired, McGregor finally responded. "I accept your challenge, Oscar de la Hoya." McGregor tweeted.
McGregor notably faced off against Floyd Mayweather in what many consider the most hyped match in boxing history. Despite Mayweather winning that match via TKO against McGregor, it has not discouraged the Irish fighter from wanting to continue pursuing the sport of boxing while simultaneously still entertaining Dana White and the UFC. Currently, McGregor appears to be showing interest in fighting on the UFC's "Fight Island," which was proposed by White as a location to continue UFC action after cases of COVID-19 decrease.
