Though he's yet to log his first minute in an NBA game, Phoenix Suns rookie Josh Jackson is already providing unintentional bulletin board material to his Western Conference opponents. In fact, you can skip ahead in the above video to 1:15 if just can't spare the time today.
For everyone else...
During a newly released video interview with VICE Sports, Jackson, the fourth overall pick from the most recent NBA Draft, was asked which NBA hoopster he'd compare himself to. That answer was unlikely to generate waves. "I’m a really big fan of [Kawhi Leonard] to be honest, just because he plays both ends of the floor," he said. "Watching the NBA today, I can’t really say that about too many players."
Naturally, that was followed up with Jackson being asked which star's playing style was most unlike his own. His answer to that was Stephen Curry. His reasoning?
"Just because he’s known as a shooter and I’m not," Jackson said. No problems so far. "And, you know, he’s small and unathletic." Oops. In fairness to Jackson, it probably didn't come out the way he intended. What he meant was that Curry generally opts to shoot from afar rather than drive to the rim. In fact, Jackson stated as much from his Twitter account shortly after media outlets began picking up on his made-for-headlines two cents:
VICE also apologized, as they realized the story was getting significantly more attention for that one line by Jackson then it was for the clip's original purpose: To watch Jackson play chess with an old man:
Jackson's statement may not have been worded perfectly, but it definitely isn't in the category of LaVar Ball already thinking his son is better than Stephen.
