UPDATE:

The Linden player in the video above—who has not been identified—has been suspended from school for ten days and suspended for two games, according to NJ.com. The player who was hit with the helmet had to receive ten stitches after the incident but is OK otherwise.

See original story below.

What in the world has gotten into football players so far this season?

First, we saw Adam "Pacman" Jones rip Amari Cooper's helmet off in the middle of a play and bang his head against it. Then, we saw a Division III college football player try to punch his way through an opponent's helmet. And now, we have this clip that features a player from Linden, N.J. ripping an opposing player's helmet off during a play and then smacking him in the head with it.

Fortunately, it didn't appear as though the player was seriously hurt on the play. But a penalty was called, and truth be told, this is the kind of thing that could have ended with criminal charges being filed against the Linden player. It's one thing to rip another player's helmet off—it's another to then use the helmet as a weapon.

It's not even October yet, guys. Can we chill with the dirty plays?
