During a recent appearance on Vince Carter’s podcast the VC Show, Kyle Lowry opened up about his body.

The Miami Heat point guard admitted that the criticism surrounding his weight used to bother him, before poking fun at the topic, saying it’s turned into an “advantage” and that “thick’s been good for me.”

“It used to bother me a lot,” Lowry, 36, shared. “It used to get to me. It used to really get to me, I’m gonna be honest with you. And now, I don’t care.”

Lowry added, “Yeah, yeah, thick’s been good for me. Yeah, I’m cool with it. … Y’all can create all the memes y’all want. I embrace it. I love it.”

At the end of last season, which ended with Lowry and the Heat losing to the Boston Celtics in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals, Miami Heat president Pat Riley discussed Kyle’s point guard play, which saw the former All-Star struggle in the playoffs after averaging 13.4 points, 7.5 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game last season.

“I do think that he can be in better shape next year,” Riley said in June. “We’ll address it and we’ll try to help him as best as we can. Because it’s not easy, when you get a little bit older.

Riley continued, “But, look it, the bottom line with me and for me, as far as hoping that you can get the most out of the player. … As you get older, there is a point of diminishing return as you get a little bit older. When you’re younger, you can do things in spite of that. I’m not saying that when he was younger he wasn’t in the kind of condition that he was in this year.”
