Intro

Athletes x Twitter can sometimes bring about ridiculous quotes and, in some cases, epic failures. Now when you have a lockout and athletes have tons of free time to go on the social network, it pretty much takes that level of entertainment to unseen heights. With the first two weeks of regular season NBA action being cancelled, we guarantee you'll be hearing more from your favorite ballers. Some keep it simple by quoting their favorite rappers or giving some insight into what a day off is like for your average NBA player, while others get political and even go as far as engaging in beef with fellow players and fans. So, from LeBron James and Kevin Durant to Ron Artest and Chris Kaman (yes, him), check out the 10 Most Important Players to Follow During the NBA Lockout...

Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony, (@carmeloanthony)

When he's not shamelessly promoting his new kicks or LaLa's TV show, Melo can be quite hilarious. He posts vids and pics of his workouts for those that say he's lazy while taking time out of his busy day to respond to bitter Nugget fans. Don't expect him to speak on the lockout, but do expect him to respond if hate's thrown his way. Word to Kat Stacks.

Amare Stoudemire

STAT is like Melo, relatively mum on the lockout except for a few retweets here and there. And like Melo, he's enjoying the NY market by promoting his new sneaker and guest starring in sitcoms. If you follow him, you're liable to win some free stuff and he's a positive guy that often offers words of inspiration.

Brandon Jennings

Brandon Jennings, (@H00dFavorite)

If you know Brandon Jennings, then you know that boy loves to talk trash. He and KD got into a back and forth on twitter over whether Kobe should be allowed to rep LA in a streetball game not too long ago. He also quotes Drake way too much, this lockout must be really getting to him. #lovelifejimmybrooks

Chris Kaman

Chris Kaman, (@ChrisKaman)

That's right, we're telling you to follow Chris Kaman. Chris hasn't tweeted in awhile, though. Maybe it's because it's huntin' season! Not that kind of hunting. When the big man isn't posting funny tidbits of his life, he's waxing poetic about Ice Road Truckers and deer season. All he needs now is a mullet and a handlebar 'stache. Oh, and like and Melo, Chris will get at you, so chill.

Landry Fields

Landry Fields, (@landryfields)

This spot was supposed to be for Agent Zero, but he has left the Twitter game (sucks for us). Landry is an unlikely candidate until you follow him. What you will learn from his feed is he has a weird sense of humor and tends to say smart shit because he went to Stanford. He also touches on a wide range of subjects like A.D.D., the NCAA sweat shop and random thoughts on hip-hop. Nothing like some a good brain. Pause.

Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant, (@KDTrey5)

KD is known to be soft-spoken but not on Twitter. He speaks his mind on the lockout, gets into major trash-talking sessions with his boys and is not afraid to pause you. With this much free time, and as much as he talks about football, Durant should definitely challenge Skip Bayless, on 1st and 10.

LeBron James

LeBron James, (@KingJames)

Despite his every move being dissected by folks like us, LBJ uses Twitter regularly. Just last week he inquired about NFL free agency which led to the World Wide Leader talking about it for 72 straight hours. Beware, though; he live tweets Dallas Cowboy games. He loves him some Tony Romo, get it?

Jared Dudley

Jared Dudley, (@JaredDudley619)

There's no question Jared Dudley has a career in television waiting for him once he retires. He not only answers questions about the lockout, but he dabbles in baseball as well as football. Never mind his relentless coverage of the "Decision" last summer, that ended in him prematurely reporting where LeBron was signing. We commend him for trying to give us the real scoop. But, man is he lucky the Knicks landed Melo. It could've gotten ugly in NY.

Steve Nash

Steve Nash, (@SteveNash)

Steve not only keeps us posted on the lockout, but also quotes Biggie and parties with Q-Tip from time to time. He has been standing up for the players since day one and has been telling it like it is. He's the Drew Brees of the NBA.

Ron Artest

Ron Artest, (@MettaWorldPeace)

It's fair to say that Ron Ron's bat-shit crazy--in a good way. He's changed his image drastically since the Malice in the Palace and even changed his name to Metta World Peace. He doesn't offer any insight into the lockout; only what seems to be random thoughts. Just follow him, his tweets cannot be explained, they can only be experienced.
