Earlier this week, video surfaced of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump making troubling comments about a 10-year-old’s appearance. He remarked on her beauty and said, "I am going to be dating her in 10 years. Can you believe it?"

Curt Schilling, the former MLB pitcher turned prominent conservative commentator, defended Trump’s comments on Thursday in an interview with Fox’s Trish Regan. Schilling’s perspective baffled Regan, and the two engaged in a striking back and forth.

"The conversation you're having about the things he said about the 10-year-old girl, to me, is at the very heart of why this is a problem," Schilling said. "How many times—and I have three boys and a daughter—how many times have you looked at a young man and said, 'Wow, is he going to be, he's a beautiful young man. Wow, he's a gorgeous young man,' and that man was 12, 13, 14, 15?"

So, essentially, Schilling implied young men are frequently objectified in the same manner that Trump objectified the 10-year-old girl in the video.

Regan interrupted Schilling’s mystifying argument and said, "I'll be honest, Curt: zero."

Schilling didn’t buy it.

"Now, see, that's a lie,” he said. “There's no way you haven't seen someone else's son and said, 'Wow, he's beautiful.'"

Regan, naturally, insisted that is not a thing that people do.

"I don't look at a young boy and say in 10 years I'm going to date him,” Regain said. “I just don't. I think that would be pretty sad if I did."

You can watch the full conversation here.

Schilling frequently takes a polarizing, controversial stance on political issues, but this one is particularly head-scratching considering last year’s incident with his daughter being harassed on Twitter. One would think he’d be a little more offended if Trump had made those comments about his 10-year-old daughter.
