Given its longstanding investment in China, the NBA has numerous key partnerships in the country. However, Morey’s tweet shook most if not all of those relationships.

Chinese-based Tencent, an official broadcasting partner that pays the league $1.5 billion, suspended all Rockets broadcasts, as did China Central Television (CCTV). Further, Chinese sponsor Shanghai Pudong Development Bank ended its partnership with the Rockets, announcing on social media: “SPD Bank Credit Card Center expresses strong protest and opposition to the wrong remarks made by Houston Rockets’ General Manager Daryl Morey.”

Additionally, leading sportswear companies Li-Ning (which is endorsed by Dwyane Wade and CJ McCollum) and Anta (Klay Thompson) announced they would not work with the Rockets any longer.
