Kyle Lowry went from potential hero to zero in a matter of seconds.
During the final seconds of Monday night's Finals bout between the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors, Lowry's potential game-winning three point shot would've sealed the game (and the series), earning the city of Toronto its first NBA championship. Instead, Draymond Green tipped the shot, and Lowry's missed three-point attempt resulted in a 106-105 loss for the Raptors, forcing Game 6 in Oakland. The team was cold all night behind the arc, only making 8 of 32 threes attempted.
So what exactly happened during that final possession? "We were trying to get Kawhi [Leonard] to his right side, they doubled off on him," Lowry explained in a post-game interview. "He swung it to Freddy [VanVleet], and Freddy had a look and threw it to me in the corner. Draymond got a piece of it."
When Leonard was asked why he didn't take the final shot, he simply laughed, saying, "Two guys came up on me, I don't know I could've got that shot off. It's hard. I mean, if you have two guys on top of you...you have to try to find the right play. We ended up getting a shot in the corner, but it just didn't go off quick enough."
To be fair to Lowry, Green did manage to get a piece of it, which can explain why the shot looked bad on the first watch.
Naturally, fans were not trying to hear it, as many took to Twitter to unleash an unmitigated attack against the 33-year-old guard.
