The Philadelphia 76ers and former president of basketball operations and general manager Bryan Colangelo have officially parted ways, following the scandalous discovery that Colangelo allegedly used one or more Twitter burner accounts to criticize his players and divulge sensitive information. This development arrives three days after the Sixers hired a law firm to investigate Colangelo’s alleged accounts.

News of the split first broke this morning when ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that sources within the league revealed that Colangelo and the 76ers are no longer an item and that the Sixers are reportedly holding a news conference later today—with coach Brett Brown set to take over Colangelo’s basketball operations duties in the interim.

In the wake of the twitter burner account probe, Bryan Colangelo's departure in Philadelphia is expected to be described as a resignation, league source tells ESPN.

It was only a few days ago that Colangelo claimed no knowledge of these accounts leaking sensitive info into the world, with Sixers player Joel Embiid coming to his defense and stating these allegations, if true, “would just be insane.” The theory regarding Colangelo's wife potentially being the informant, originating from a Twitter user's speculative deep dive, meanwhile, was concluded to be accurate today by the law firm hired to investigate that claim.

Colangelo himself has reacted to that announcement by essentially throwing his wife under the bus, claiming he had no knowledge of his wife starting any nefarious Twitter accounts, or sharing sensitive information through those channels.

“Her actions were a seriously misguided effort to publicly defend and support me, and while I recognize how inappropriate these actions were, she acted independently and without my knowledge or consent,” Colangelo claims.

As it stands, all we can do is wait for the Sixers’ announcement scheduled for this afternoon, and hear what the team officials are ready to reveal publicly.
