On the eve of Monday's conference call to be held by the NFL's Compensation Committee to discuss a contract extension for league commissioner Roger Goodell, ESPN published a report detailing the rumored certain demands made by Goodell in his last written counterproposal. The last reported counterproposal, which was made "around the first of August," claims Goodell is asking for $49.5 million per year, as well as lifetime use of a private jet and lifetime health insurance for himself and his family. Goodell's alleged $49.5 million asking price is an astronomical increase from his current salary of around $30 million per year.

Joe Lockhart, executive vice president of communications, has denied the existence of Goodell's written counterproposal. "The only element of the ESPN report that is true is that there is a regularly scheduled Compensation Committee conference call on Monday," Lockhart said in a statement. "There is no basis in fact for any of the other reporting. Those trying to peddle that nonsense are profoundly misinformed or deliberately trying to mislead."

Goodell's contract extension talks have already caused some considerable backlash with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones threatening to file a lawsuit if these talks don't go down the appropriate avenues. Before Goodell's extension is completed, he will need a final review or approval from the league's 32 teams.

The NFL continues to have a perpetual cloud hanging over its head with Goodell seemingly always situated somewhere at the center. It's probably in the league's best interest to part ways with their current commissioner and start on a blank slate with someone new.
