If you caught the NBA All-Star Game last night, you might have been underwhelmed. Sure, Anthony Davis won MVP and earned the title for most points in an All-Star Game with 52, Kevin Durant broke the proverbial ice and passed an alley-oop to Russell Westbrook, and we witnessed the highest-scoring combined game of all time at 374 points. However, the biggest moment actually happened after the game when Kings center DeMarcus Cousins was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Video of Cousins readying himself to answer media questions popped up last night, and the reporter who captured the footage (Cowbell Kingdom's Manny Vieites) claims it was the exact moment Cousins heard he was being traded. "DeMarcus Cousins reaction as soon as he found out he had been traded to the New Orleans Pelicans," Vieites wrote. You can check out the clip above.
Pretty wild, right?
For what it's worth, a handful of people who were there have already disputed that was the scenario:
This is bogus. Was 3 feet away with a mic near by. King PR told him about reports surfacing via Twitter. Cousins said, "Oh really?" https://t.co/U1aGtPPWRy— Adam Ney (@sayneykid) February 20, 2017
This tweet is totally false. This was right after the game. PR guy told him reports surfaced he might get traded. Trade report 30 mi. later https://t.co/1qQN5kq6BK— Garland Gillen (@garlandgillen) February 20, 2017
Cousins plays it cool throughout the clip, so it really could go either way. One thing's for sure though: the Pelicans' chances to reach the playoffs just skyrocketed.
