The New York Daily News is stirring up the pot this week when it comes to sports rumors. Yesterday, they reported that Colin Kaepernick is interested in leaving the 49ers for the Jets. And now, they’ve got another report about how the Celtics might try to work out a trade with the Rockets for Dwight Howard.

The report is actually buried deep in a larger report about the Knicks’ need for a point guard. But NYDN reporter Frank Isola mentions that the Celtics might be in play for a trade involving Howard. Here’s the exact report:

Meanwhile, the Celtics have engaged the Houston Rockets in talks about a possible deal for Dwight Howard, the Daily News has learned. Howard can opt out of his contract this summer, and considering his back and knee issues, it doesn’t make much sense for Boston GM Danny Ainge to use the assets on a player with declining skills and a battered body.

There’s not much else in the report, but the Celtics do have plenty of assets that they could trade away, including several first-round picks that they obtained from the Nets. But as Isola alluded to, would they be willing to part ways with a valuable pick in exchange for a guy who could leave town this summer? Not likely. Stay tuned for more wacky NBA rumors over the next few weeks!
