Fred Hoiberg Telling the Media Derrick Rose's Vision Could Be Blurry For 3 Months Was the First Rose Had Heard of It

Something very odd is going on with the Chicago Bulls. Yes, the team has gotten off to a 6-3 start, but it seems like every day a new story comes out shedding light on some sort of disorder within the organization. If it's not reports about Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butlerhaving difficulty getting along, it's Rose talking about how excited he is for free agency. If it's not Brian Windhorst talking about the breakup of the Bulls and Rose beginning sooner than you think, it's Rose and his head coach being on two completely different pages, medically speaking.

When Rose fractured his left orbital during training camp, he reported experiencing double vision after having surgery on Sept. 30. He's been wearing a mask in the early goings of the 2015-2016 season, and despite admitting some early discomfort, appears to be adjusting to visual issues fairly well.

Today, Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg gave an update on how Rose was progressing:

"[The doctors] said it could be as long as three months," Hoiberg told ESPN. "But [the vision] has continued to improve, and that's obviously a positive."

That was apparently the first time Rose had heard anything about that diagnosis.

"This is my first time hearing about it," Rose said of the possible three-month timeline. "But you kind of have that hope in your mind that it gets well a lot quicker. But for this to be seven or eight [weeks] out and still the same way, I can't do nothing but live with it. Get the most out of every day, keep putting my deposits in and keep working on my game until my eye gets better."

Alrighty then.

Far be it from us to tell a professional sports organization how to run their business, but going to the media with an update on a player's injury without telling said player first seems like a pretty poor move.
