USF Football Player Arrested, Accused of Firing a Gun on Campus

A University of South Florida football player has been arrested and accused of firing a gun on campus, according to a report from the Associated Press.

The details, according to police, are that 21-year-old freshman offensive lineman Benjamin Knox fired shots at a dorm from a parking garage. Shell casings were found on the ground, and an open gun case with ammunition were also found inside a vehicle belonging to Knox. The incident occurred around 4 a.m., and witnesses say they heard gun shots coming from a garage, and then heard a car screeching off.

Police say the shots appeared to have been fired randomly, and thankfully, no one was injured.

Police say they found a gun when Knox was arrested at his dorm, and the player has (obviously) been suspended from participating in all team activities. Knox is being held on $15,000 bond, and the charges are discharging a firearm on school property and shooting into a building.

Knox was rated a four-star recruit by ESPN.com, and also played basketball in high school. He had offers to attend several other schools, including Florida, Louisville, Tennessee, Iowa and N.C. State, according to the team's website.
