Recently, Oscar De La Hoya appeared on HOT 97 to promote the upcoming fight between Gennady Golovkin and David Lemieux. However, much of the conversation was dominated by talk about Floyd Mayweather. No stranger to taking shots at Floyd, De La Hoya threw a couple verbal jabs at the 38-year-old boxer, criticizing his fight against Manny Pacquiao and wondering why he took the bout against Andre Berto.
When the topic switched over to the likes of GGG, Miguel Cotto and others, Oscar was asked, at around the 9-minute mark, if the sport would be better off in the post-Floyd era. Without a single moment of hesitation, De La Hoya agreed. Are you sure about that Oscar?
Given his personal issues, Mayweather will never be everyone's favorite. But there's still an appeal in watching someone as technically sound as him. And, of course, there's always going to be the thought in the back of your mind that this fight could be the one that the most hated man in boxing loses.
