The San Antonio Spurs just scored a staggering 71 points in the first half against the Miami Heat, and hold a 21 point lead in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

The Spurs' 75.8 percent shooting is the single best percentage in the history of the NBA Finals, beating out the 75.0 percent the Magic put up against the Lakers in 2009. The 86.7 percent from the first quarter was also a Finals record, breaking the 85.0 percent mark set by the Bulls in Game 2 of the 1991 Finals.

San Antonio also approached the record for points in the first half of a Finals game, which was set by the Celtics against the Lakers in 1985 with 79. While Miami did manage a strong 50 points, that number kept the teams from making a serious run at the all-time record total of 140, set by the San Francisco Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers in 1967.

San Antonio also now holds the record for largest halftime lead in a Finals game by a road team since 1996, and should Miami win, they’d tie the record for largest halftime deficit ever overcome (21).

Let’s see if the second half can live up to the first.
