The Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to begin contract negotiations with internationally-reknowned coach David Blatt, with the assumption that they’ll be able to strike a deal and name him the team’s head coach for 2014-15 and beyond.

The report, from Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski, says that Blatt is the team’s top choice ahead of former player and current Los Angeles Clippers assistant Tyronn Lue, who has worked with Doc Rivers in both LA and Boston. Blatt would be the first Euroleague coach ever to make the leap right to the NBA.

The Golden State Warriors are also said to be interested in Blatt, although that would be in an assistant capacity under new coach Steve Kerr. Blatt has been hugely successful, winning titles in the Euroleague, Eurobasket, and a bronze medal with Russia at the 2012 Olympics.

He resigned from Maccabi Tel-Aviv just over a week ago in order to pursue his dream of coaching in the NBA. It now looks as though that dream is about to be realized.
