David Brown's Project Judi To Undress in Monaco

Finally, more than just teasers.

Back in ’88, Public Enemy rapped the lyrics “Don’t believe the hype." We'll give them the benefit of the doubt, because no one could have expected the hype surrounding Britain’s new kid on the block, David Brown Automotive. They fresh-faced luxury brand has been teasing its “Project Judi” for weeks now, but finally we have some technical details to get a little steamy with.

The “Judi” will receive Jaguar’s throaty 5.0L supercharged V8, producing 510-horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque, transferred to the rear wheels through a 6-speed automatic gearbox. This allows for a “suitably brisk, yet refined” 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds, with a top speed of 155mph. The chassis underpinnings come from Jaguar’s XKR, but based on the teaser images and statements from Brown; it looks to share no resemblance to its Coventry-made cousin or Judi Dench for that matter.

If the name David Brown sounds oddly familiar, it is. You’ve probably seen it pasted on the front of an Aston Martin badge, as Brown’s father (also named David Brown) bought the company in 1947. With such pedigree surrounding this automotive family, we’re expecting big things from the Judi - we just hope it gets a more fitting name.

Project Judi will unveil to the world at the Top Marques Show in Monaco, April 17.
