The Chick-fil A Bowl was marked with a tragic moment to bring in the new year. After Johnny Manziel completed his epic comeback, AP's Dave Martin suffered a heart attack on the field.
OMG - it appears the AP photog just had a heart attack on the field. Terrible.— Mark Armstrong (@ArmstrongABC11) January 1, 2014
Both training staffs are working feverishly to resuscitate him.— Mark Armstrong (@ArmstrongABC11) January 1, 2014
EMTs were yelling at him as they carted him off the field 'keep breathing! Keep breathing! Stay alive!'— Mark Armstrong (@ArmstrongABC11) January 1, 2014
That's terrible news to hear not just on New Year's Day, but on any day. Thoughts go out to him, his friends, colleagues, and his family.
UPDATE: Martin, 59, has passed away following the heart attack. The photographer was capturing the Aggies' celebration shots after their victory when he collapsed on the field. Martin, who's known as Mullet to friends, has been in photojournalism since 1982. Condolences to his wife Jamie and children Emily and Skip.
