Complex Says: Sometimes the scariest medical problems are the ones that creep up on you years later. Mirra had his spleen removed after an accident while riding vert in 1995, but that surgery lowered his resistance to serious infections--like bacterial meningitis. In June 2010, Mirra was hospitalized for the infection, but managed to quickly recover under the care of doctors and strong antibiotics. What's a worse injury, one to your body or one to your brain? We can't decide. All we know is, Mirra's still standing, driving, and riding in 2012.
