Nike Celebrates Black History Month With New Collection and Grants

Nike is celebrating Black History Month with a new collection highlighted by customizable Air Force 1 sneakers.

The Nike Air Force 1 Low FM (Future Movement) By You palettes are designed and inspired by Black creators and include special details like patterns obscured by wear-away translucent materials and rub-away leather that reveals bold colors underneath. Nike partnered Olympic fencer Daryl Homer, artist and philanthropist Brandon ‘Stix’ Salaam-Bailey, and Canadian ice hockey player Saroya Tinker to further design their own pair. 

In addition to product, Nike is announcing the 2022 grantees for its $140 million Black Community Commitment in partnership with Michael Jordan and Converse. This year’s recipients include education-focused foundations Son of A SaintAll Star Code, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America along with the social justice-driven Equal Justice Initiative. Furthermore, the brand will invest $2.75 million across 44 different organizations in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Memphis, New York City, Portland, and St. Louis.

The Nike Air Force 1 Low FM By You sneakers retail for $140 each and will be released alongside a Future Movement apparel collection comprising T-shirts and hoodie today at noon E.T. from nike.com.
