Puma has debuted its latest technological innovation, the auto-lacing Fit Intelligence (Fi) sneaker.
The first Fi style will is a low-top designed for workouts and light running. Its main feature is a micromotor placed on the tongue, which will power the shoe's cable lacing system with a quick swipe up or down. The smart lacing setup will mold uniquely to each wearer's foot to give everyone their own personalized experience with the model. Like Nike's Adapt BB basketball sneaker, the fit will also be able to be adjusted through an accompanying smartphone app as well.
A successor to Puma's AutoDisc, the first wirelessly connected adaptive fit shoe that was shown off in 2016, Fit Intelligence will eventually make its way onto footwear in various categories across the brand. The debut Fit Intelligence model will feature a black mesh upper with tonal welded overlays. Puma's signature stripe runs across each side panel in white, while minimal "Fi" branding can also be seen stamped on each heel. Blue is used to highlight the auto-lacing cables weaving their way across the upper, while a branded forefoot band will provide additional lockdown. Each shoe will also come packaged with a charging pad to use in between wears.
Expect the Puma Fit Intelligence to hit the market in 2020. In the mean time, Puma is offering beta testing through its Pumatrac app. Details on how to sign-up will be available soon via the app and puma.com.
