DJ Clark Kent might be regarded as the Air Force 1 king, but he just might have a challenger to his throne. OK, probably not, but New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft does have some deep pockets, as he's the latest personality to be associated with the Nike classic.

Having released the Patriots x Nike Lunar Force 1 today, Kraft spoke with the Boston Globe about how his love for the Bruce Kilgore-designed sneaker came to be. Pain, foot pain to be specific, is how Kraft was introduced to the AF1. Many of you out there know the discomfort of having to wear hard-bottom shoes all day. Kraft inquired with Nike team representatives about designing something more comfortable for him and from that conversation, Kraft was later introduced to the Lunar Force 1, a modern take on the AF1 featuring more-comfortable Lunar technology.

Fast forward to a more recent event, in which Kraft introduced Nike's Mark Parker at a Boston College function, and the idea of the "Owner's Model" - today's release - was born.

It's not weird to see someone in a pair of sneakers with a suit, but Kraft has definitely gotten noticed for his now-signature look. “People stop me on the street and tell me how cool they look. I’ve had inner-city kids tell me how hip I am,” he said.

And, at the end of the day, that's what sneakers are all about.
