No one does Zero Drop quite like Altra—take the brand’s lightweight Superior 1.5 trail runner for example.

An update to the current model, the Superior 1.5 is all about providing runners with lightweight performance with maximum amount of protection. Along with a revamped upper, the Superior 1.5 comes with a slightly reduced weight, as well as a more streamlined design overall that should help you shed some seconds off your runs.

Though, at first glance, the Superior 1.5 looks more like a road racing shoe than a trail one, it’s loaded with everything you’ll need to get through the backwoods seamlessly. It features foot-shaped toe box to better comfort to the feet, and comes with a removable StoneGuard rock plate that deflects rocks into the midsole for a more stable ride.

The shoe features a unique CheckerTrail outsole that features square-shaped lugs in offset heights for reliable footing on uneven terrain. Rounding out the Superior 1.5 is a quick-dry trail mesh upper, as well as a dual layer EVA midsole for comfort.

Look for the Altra Superior 1.5 to start making its way onto retail shelves in early 2014. The suggested retail price for the shoe is set at $105.
