Yes, it’s still summertime, and sure, right now the cross-country season may seem a long ways away. But it’s going to creep up on you so be prepared. In fact, consider this your warning.

If improving your speed and ranking amongst the elite runners is at the top of your priority list next season, you’ll need a spike that can help your cause—one like the all-new Carrera XC from Saucony. One of the lightest cross-country spikes in the field, the Carrera XC weighs in at a mere  3.9 ounces. Don’t let its featherweight build fool you though, you still get all the support you need thanks to a FlexFilm upper integrated with a Pro-Lock lacing system consisting of straps on either side of the midfoot for a locked in fit.

Below the breathable mesh upper is a SSL EVA midsole that is durable, yet offers exceptional energy rebound on every strike. Of course what would an elite racing spike be without an aggressive outsole. The Carrera XC has that covered too by way of a full-length 6-pin Pebax plate paired with an XT-600 carbon rubber outsole designed to tear up the track. The spike is available in both men’s and women’s versions.
