Jennifer Lopez’s mother made a surprise appearance during an interview this week, succinctly reflecting on two decades of prayer she says she put toward the reunion of her daughter and Ben Affleck.

Lopez was being interviewed on the Today show in promotion of her upcoming Netflix action entry The Mother, the trailer for which can be found here, when her mother was asked to share some comments she had made off-camera about her daughter’s much-discussed Affleck reunion.

“I knew that you would always get back together because I prayed for 20 years,” the star’s mother, Guadalupe Rodríguez, said.

See more below, including Lopez’s own reflection on the “incredible journey” she’s been on over the past 20 years, as well as how that journey has informed her upcoming new album, due this summer.

The long and winding road behind the Bennifer reunion, as has been well documented by a number of scholarly voices on such topics, took a surprising-to-some turn in early 2021 when the two were revealed to have been giving their relationship another go after splitting in 2004. By July of the following year, they were married.

In January, Lopez looked back on this split and her and Affleck’s prior engagement, joking that she “absolutely had a little PTSD” ahead of the wedding.

While Lopez has a new movie and album on the way, Affleck is currently fresh off the release of Air, which he co-starred in and directed. Complex recently sat down with the writer of that film, Alex Convery, for an extended discussion on how he brought the Air Jordan story to the big screen. Revisit the interview in full here.
