Before Arrested Development's season five hits Netflix later this month, the series' creator, Mitch Hurwitz, released a recut version of season four for the streaming platform.
Arrested Development's season four, which originally dropped in 2013, was shot in a Rashomon-style, meaning each Bluth family member had one of the 15 episodes dedicated to them. Now, in hopes to recapture the attention of the show's fans (and to be able to cash in on syndication), Hurwitz re-edited the episodes and reportedly used unaired content to fit the traditional 22-minute episodes. And just like the original three seasons, there's a total of 22 episodes. But the re-release isn't going over well with everyone.
The Hollywood Reporter says sources claim the show's actors including Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, and David Cross, are demanding additional compensation for the newly edited release of season four.
It turns out that while Hurwitz "may be making more money," the cast likely won't since they were paid for the standalone episodes before the re-release. THR reports Jessica Walter, Jeffrey Tambor, Alia Shawkat, and Tony Hale were paid $100,000 for their stand-alone episodes and an additional $50,000 or $25,000 depending on their screen time.
In the meantime, drama is still unfolding for Tambor, who is accused of sexual harassment by his former assistant. He's denied the claim in a recent interview. "I dispute her account. I did raise my voice at times, I was moody at times, there were times when I was tactless. But as for the other stuff, absolutely not," he said.
Arrested Development's season five is slated to drop on Netflix on May 29.
