Sounds like Netflix's already stacked Rudy Ray Moore biopic is about to get even stacked-er.
Dolemite Is My Name, starring Eddie Murphy as the late comedian, blaxploitation actor, and self-proclaimed "Godfather of Rap," is reportedly close to adding T.I. to a supporting cast that already includes Wesley Snipes and Craig Robinson. The Ant-Man franchise star is currently in talks to join Craig Brewer's film in the role of a "funny" movie producer, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Work on the biopic, co-produced by Murphy, kicked off earlier this month. Tituss Burgerss and Da'Vine Joy Randolph also star, acting from a script by Ed Wood/Man on the Moon duo Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. A release date has not been announced.
In next month's Ant-Man and the Wasp, T.I. will reprise his role as Dave alongside stars Paul Rudd and Michael Peña. Speaking with Billboard last week for an interview that largely resulted in pull quotes about his work with post-Trump Kanye West, T.I. named his previous roles in ATL, House of Lies, Boss, and American Gangster as his personal favorites. T.I. said he "loved" his Boss role, adding that working with Frasier alum Kelsey Grammar was "meticulous."
Murphy last appeared in the 2016 Bruce Beresford–helmed drama Mr. Church, which received a Tribeca Film Festival premiere and was met with not-so-excellent reviews. Murphy, however, received acclaim for his performance in the titular role. The Los Angeles Times' Michael Rechtshaffen, for example, touted Murphy's ability to somehow give a "meticulously composed performance" in an otherwise subpar film.
