Daniel Fleetwood, the 32-year-old Star Wars fan whose dying wish was to see the forthcoming The Force Awakens, has passed away. Fleetwood suffered from a rare spindle cell sarcoma cancer and was given two months to live in July, according to Mashable. Daniel’s wife, Ashley Fleetwood, confirmed his passing in a Facebook post on Tuesday:
Once Daniel’s wish went for viral, with the assistance of a widely shared interview with KPRC (see above) and the hashtag #ForceForDaniel, The Force Awakens stars Mark Hamill, John Boyega, and Peter Mayhewjoined the call. "Judging by how progressive the disease has gotten in the past two months, I really don't think that I'll be able to make it," Fleetwood told KPRC during a tour of his impressive Star Wars collection.
Shortly after that interview, Fleetwood got a call from none other than J.J. Abrams, informing him that he would in fact get the chance to catch The Force Awakens ahead of its December release. "Today the wonderful Disney and Lucasfilms made his final dream come true," Ashley shared on Facebook after getting the news. "In the amazing typical Disney way, they really do make dreams come true!"
Rest in power, Daniel. May the Force be with you always.
