With his upcoming holiday-timed murder mystery Knives Out, director Rian Johnson is hoping viewers can find some comfort by way of comparison.

"It's nice going in and experiencing a family that's more messed up than your own," the Last Jedi director told Entertainment Weekly Tuesday, the same day the film's first trailer debuted. Up top, catch that exact trailer.

The goal with Knives Out's family-centered story, Johnson explained Tuesday, was to take what he loves about "a great Agatha Christie story" and place it within a new original tale "set in modern day America."

Johnson's latest stars Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, LaKeith Stanfield, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Don Johnson, Christopher Plummer, and more. A theater at least somewhat near you should be providing viewing access starting Nov. 27. For those keeping count on holiday matters, that is indeed just one day ahead of something called "Thanksgiving."

CinemaCon attendees got a first look at Knives Out footage earlier this year, with word from those lucky enough to be there that Johnson has indeed nailed it.

While The Last Jedi is Johnson's most recent full-length feature, his 2018 slate included the LCD Soundsystem short "Oh Baby."
