Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg May Write "Star Wars" Spin-offs Instead of Sequel Films

Nothing is set in stone yet, though.

None

There are a lot of rumors surrounding the new Star Wars films being produced by Disney, and now we've got another to add to the list: According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg, who previously signed deals to write and produceStar Wars: Episode VIII and Star Wars: Episode IX, may actually be writing spin-off films instead.

Of course, nothing is set in stone yet, but apparently "insiders" are saying that there's the possibility Kasdan and Kinberg's scripts could turn into "spinoffs focusing on side characters," similar to the films from Marvel's The Avengers franchise. Though this would make their scripts separate from the main storyline in VIII and IX, Kasdan and Kinberg would still receive producers credits on those films.

Technically, this news does fall in line with previous reports - Disney CEO Robert Iger has said that he wants a Star Wars movie "every two to three years," which is much more plausible if some of them were deatched from the main storyline of the franchise.

Disney and Lucasfilm, of course, declined to comment. Time to start speculating!
