New York City wants you to know: If you'd like to enjoy a smoke in an outdoor public space, you can't. But smokers, take heart. According to a Parks, Health and Transportation Departments joint press release, "We expect the new law will be enforced by New Yorkers themselves, who will ask people to follow the law and stop smoking."
If you're in the sightline of a person with some authority, you can be slapped with a $50 fine. Otherwise, NYC really is relying on non-smoking samaritans to keep the great outdoors smoke free.
Stop snitching. These are two words that occurred to us this morning.
