For four years of your life, you were allowed to do just about anything and call it "experimenting." That time you drunkenly made out with your roommate's cat? Experimenting. When you signed up for, and quickly dropped, that advanced philosophy class after you did shrooms in the woods? Just another experiment. Fortunately for you, and not so much for house pets, this is a key part of the college experience. Unfortunately for you, it gets old. Quick.

There is no doubt that college is the best time of your life. You live with your friends, there is a food everywhere, and being drunk on a Saturday afternoon isn't considered a problem—yet. But just a couple years in (or, for some of us, after) you'll start to realize that what you once considered the best part about undergrad life is actually the worst. For people headed to university, already there, or a few years out, we're counting down the 10 most overrated things about college life. 'Cuz we all know beer pong isn't fun unless you're winning.

Financial Aid

Code words for "you will owe the federal governement a fraction of a million dollars with an interest rate of a limb or two for the rest of eternity—starting 6 months after you graduate". Grants a make her dance.

Beer Pong

Remember how quickly your idea to get vodka involved with Scrabble was shut down? Drinking is so integral to this game it prevents your friends from contemplating an intervention and it should be fun. But when you're 20 minutes in, and you've yet to make one shot, what little hand-eye coordination has been forfeited to your body's attempt to remain upright and now your song came on and all you just want to do is a mock-Miley booty pop? That's when beer pong loses its charm.

Football Games

It's cold. You understand about 15% of what is going on, most because you're drunk. But you're not drunk enough for this. And more importantly, it's cold. Going to football games, or any other major sporting event, is a college must. But one might be enough. School spirit just isn't for everyone. And neither is standing with thousands of strangers in the middle of November watching a leather ball traveling across a field.

The Library

Once upon a time the library was a magical place of wonderment and intellectual curiosities. In college, it becomes your personal hell. Everyone looks like the before in a depression medication commercial and somehow you always have 24 hours of work to finish by 9 a.m. And it's midnight. Godspeed.

Food 24/7

We appreciate the constant access to food more than you can imagine. The real reason it's overrated is because in 4 years it will disappear forever. People won't give you pizza for coming to their club's open house. The pleasure of getting pelted with fun-size candies at an activities fair will come to a screeching halt when you start commuting. In the real world, no one is concerned about the welfare of your stomach. Forget the freshman 15. Go for that college 100 because you're gonna need a little extra body weight to make up for those starved post-graduation years.

Living With Your Bestie

The reason your best friend is your best friend is because you do NOT live with them. Do you know why people get divorced? Because they live together. There is a point where humans get comfortable in their living space and start leaving dirty underwear in pantries and blasting bad music at times where no reasonable human should be awake. You do not want to wake up, roll over, and see your best friend in the bunk bed across the room, eating your chips and using your headphones. Keep the friendship alive and continue living with the university-assigned randoms.

Major: Undecided

"You look cute in that." "I swear he looks good in real life." " I love you." #liespeopletell. And our number one fave? "You don't need to know your major." No. You definitely do. Being undecided is about as cute as Miley Cyrus' saggy ass i.e. not at all. Of course, as a freshman, no one is expected to know what they're doing with their entire lives, especially since you haven't even learned your roommates names yet. But three years in, you should have a pretty good idea of what you want to study. Unless you want to be about that 7th year senior life.

Living Away From Home

The excitment one feels when they leave their childhood home and go off into the world is undeniable. There are no parents, no rule, and as most of us quickly discover, no money. Regardless of how many children you babysat (read: watched TV with until they fell asleep), your parents were probably your most reliable form of income. Asking dad for 20 bucks on the way to school was a lot easier than earning time and a half on Black Friday in a Macy's. When you finally arrive on campus and realize you've been hungry for days, still haven't bought books, and really have to stop using other people's detergent in the laundry room. You also realize running upstairs to remedy these issues with Mom's purse is no longer an option. Time to hit up the work-study applications.

Keg Stands

Beer is a beautiful creation that is one of the few alcoholic drinks you can pound down six of during dinner (Vodka straight with a burger is really not a thing) and still be a socially acceptable human being. Meanwhile, Gymnastics is an exciting aerobic sport that the Russians and Chinese dominate. Sensing any similiarities? Neither do we. Which is why keg stands make no sense. Doing a handstand while two frat boys bruise your ankles as you choke down bee is a college rite of passage that still goes over our heads. We're just warning you now: gravity is not on your side and that beer is headed straight to your nose. But you're going to do it anyway. The chug chants are just too tempting.

Toga Parties

You're wrapped in a questionable bed sheet with your friend's belt tied precariously around your waist; one good gust of wind and there could be a serious public indecency situation. And yet, here you are, in the middle of winter, rocking a 300 thread count and Ugg boots. Even in the heat of August, toga parties seem like an easy way to play "show me yours and I won't show you anything because I didn't wear a toga cause I'm smarter than you and destined to graduate with honors while you attend toga parties year after year and always end up drunkenly flashing a dean on your way home." We're all for partying, but wear a T-shirt and boxers underneath that thing. Please.
