The War Z was released yesterday on Steam after some extensive beta testing, though if you've been paying attention on reddit and other gaming community sites you probably already knew not to buy it.
Gamers have called The War Z a lot of things: a Day Z ripoff, a half-finished game that doesn't include half the features that were described when players purchased it, and a money-grubbing application with an upfront price of $14.99 and a plethora of microtransactions (including a charge to respawn sooner than the ridiculous four-hour wait time). And the longer this goes on, the more legitimate those concerns seem to become.
You see, Valve has even gone as far as pulling the game from sale through Steam, issuing the following statement:
Sergey Titov, executive producer at developer Hammerpoint Interactive, blamed gamers for misreading blatantly false descriptions of the game:
Yeah, that comes off real sincere. Either way, it seems that everyone should be appeased by what Valve's done to rectify the situation—those who want a refund can get it, and those who want to keep playing can do so (though the game is not currently available for sale to new players). And Hammerpoint is likely going to get a stern talking to from Valve before they get to release another version of The War Z.
