We've received some strange press releases in our day, but none with a subject line like "Former Microsoft Xbox team developer downloads virtual children in adult bodies" until now.

Former Microsoft employee and "Sundance alum" Phil Ferriere and award-winning visual effects producer Sophie Leclerc are co-heading a short film called Happy Downloadday with an interesting premise and a Kickstarter campaign just waiting to be funded.

"Happy Downloadday is a live action sci-fi drama about a virtual teenager who, on his eighteenth birthday, refuses to download into an artificially grown human body, at the risk of being deleted by his parents," the project page reads. "The whole story is set in a universe where resources are so scarce that children are raised as software programs until they turn 18, a time at which they are expected to become productive members of society."
