Nathan Chasing Horse, an actor who had previously starred in the 1990 movie Dances With Wolves, is facing nine criminal charges in Alberta including sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

According to CBC News, the investigation against Chasing Horse lasted multiple years. One of the offenses allegedly took place in 2005. He's also accused of removing a child under the age of 16 from Canada.

Chasing Horse was arrested in January in Nevada and subsequently charged with 18 felonies such as sexual assault of a minor, child abuse, and kidnapping.

CBC News also reports that court documents claim Chasing Horse was the leader of a group called The Circle, which has been deemed cult-like. The documents also suggest that he used his position of power to manipulate Indigenous families in order to gain access to their children and take underage wives.

The investigation in Nevada began after a woman from British Columbia reported Chasing Horse to the RCMP. She alleged that he had sex with her when she was 17 years old. The RCMP then alerted Las Vegas police.

Chasing Horse is also expected to be charged with crimes in Montana and British Columbia.
