10 New Features We'd Like to See in "NBA 2K15"

The advent of next-gen consoles such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are meant to show off their power and precision to detail. As gamers around the world witness the arrival of NBA 2K15, which releases on October 7, we are already anticipating new features, new music, and new experiences. For now, we have an exciting real–life NBA Finals going on, that has captured the magic of yesteryear basketball.

With Kevin Durant posing as the intimidating force for 2K15’s box art, the roll out for the next level in simulation hoops has focused on the authentic emotion contained on (and off) the court. 2K Games has cemented itself as the go-to-game for when it comes to playing the game of roundball. As EA attempts to bring NBA Live 15 out in a head-to-head battle for your dunks and dollars, it seems that the Novato, California company is out to stay no. 1.

So, to tide you all over until some real gameplay footage drops, we muse 10 new features we’d like to see in NBA 2K15.

Rationale: The greatest fans in sports need to be properly represented.

We've come a long way from those red and blue shirt hoop fans who all stood in unison when we did something nice. In NBA 2K15, gamers should see more fan reactions (who do they root for?), hear more chants, and be able to make their own individual. If Watch Dogs could build the entire city of Chicago, 2K15 should make short work of American Airlines Arena.

Rationale: "The Park" is low-key wack because there's no real incentive to play.

"The Park" lagged online and gamers took umbrage with it via social media. Upgrading the feature by allowing the 2K community to create sponsored online tournaments, play them, and possibly win prizes. Sounds like an appealing addition to NBA 2K15, doesn't it?

Rationale: 2K15 should reflect the changes made in the real league.

The NBA took a stance for diversity in the workplace, so 2K15 should follow suit and add real-life referee Violet Palmer to the game. It only makes sense. The year is 2014, everyone. Palmer has been in the league since 2006. It shouldn't be this difficult to put a woman in a sports video game as something other than a cheerleader.

Rationale: Highlighting pivotal team and player moments will never have felt so good.

2K15 should give gamers the ability to capitalize on their characters' moments in defining their legacy. Sure, LeBron may have more than just basketball in mind for his, but that doesn't mean we have to. After last night's cramping, LBJ needs all the help he can get in staving off the critics.

Rationale: An end of the repetitiveness is necessary for the franchise to flourish.

There's a healthy subset of gamers who live and breathe through the MyPlayer mode. 2K15 can reward them by making the career of their customized hoop star more dynamic. Judging by the latest trailer—which stars IpodKingCarter—they're getting off to the right start.

Rationale: Return players ability to call defensive schemes. Defense wins championships.

Defensive play-calling was severely missed in the previous iteration, as gamers had to ensure their roster knew how to play their man. In this year's version, allowing us to use the D-pad to call defensive sets would improve our chances of copping this title.

Rationale: Pooling inspired words of wisdom from the 2K audience allows fans to be more involved than ever.

By now, gamers are getting bored with the repetitive commentary used by the 2K announcing crew. If the gang that's responsible for handling 2K15 doesn't allow its fans to hear the play-calling they want, then watch out. The memes will start flying.

Rationale: Keeping up with all the news in sports while you game is so next-gen.

With everything becoming more and more connected these days, it's only right to take advantages of the creative possibilities. By placing a customizable ESPN ticker that allows gamers to keep up with the stats, games, and athletes they want, the game would be taken to a higher level of interactiveness.

Rationale: Choosing right or wrong would affect how fans and players react to you.

MyPlayer mode offered gamers choices in how they developed their hopeful NBA star. In NBA 2K15, we'd love to be able to have our choices reflect how teammates, GMs, refs, and the fans all react to our decisions. If you have an off-the-court transgression with a teammate, your method of either doing something good (letting it slide) or bad (get into a fracas) will affect more than just your imaginary paycheck.

Rationale: The ability to follow through is important now more than ever.

This new generation of ballers are bigger, stronger, and faster than ever. So it is fitting that the game should reflect these changes in dramatic showing. One way of doing that is by adding the ability to go for your shot even after you've been fouled. Although that can happen naturally in NBA 2K14, it would be cooler to give players the skills to create their own highlights.
