What to Watch This Weekend Aziz Ansari Nightclub Comedian

Some of our favorites are back on our screens giving us so much new content to watch this weekend. Netflix is delivering fresh content regularly this year, and two of its recent releases have made our list. The streaming giant dropped the Aziz Ansari: Nightclub Comedian special earlier this week and it followed as the talented comedian went back to his roots by doing an impromptu set at the Comedy Cellar in New York City. The comedian made headlines earlier this week when the standup dropped after he mentioned both Nicki Minaj and Aaron Rodgers and their public comments on vaccines. Netflix is also delivering their latest limited series, a dark comedy titled The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window, starring Kristen Bell and Michael Ealy.

But that’s not all. Apple TV+ dropped a new show called The Afterparty with a stacked cast including  Tiffany Haddish, Dave Franco, Zoë Chao, Ben Schwartz, Ike Barinholtz, Ilana Glazer, and Jamie Demetriou. The show is about a famous singer named Xavier who invites his old high school classmates over to his house following their 15-year reunion for an afterparty, and he mysteriously winds up dead. Freeform’s hit show grown-ish is also back this week for the second part of the show’s fourth season, and there’s even more drama than usual. There is more than enough to watch this week. If you don’t find anything that’s to your liking below, check out our picks from last week here for more options.

When: Jan. 25

Where: Netflix

It’s been a while since Aziz Ansari has made us laugh, and his Netflix special Aziz Ansari: Nightclub Comedian is his most recent attempt to do so. Ansari performed and filmed a surprise and intimate set at the Comedy Cellar in New York City last year, and has now shared it for everyone to watch. The comedian’s most recent standup was 2019’s Aziz Ansari: Right Now, where he addressed the sexual misconduct controversy he was involved in the previous year. Since then, the actor has taken a step back from the public eye, and in his new special he addresses all that has happened since, being back in NYC after moving to London, his reactions to how the world and society have changed because of COVID, anti-vaxxers and more. The Parks and Recreation star is more self-reflective and empathetic these days and he encourages everyone to do the same, especially to people with different views than our own who he believes are simply “trapped in a different algorithm.” The Master of None co-creator brings the laughs as usual, but he might also inspire you to think and view things differently this time around.

When: Friday, Jan. 28

Where: Apple TV+

A 15-year high school reunion turns deadly after one classmate named Xavier (Dave Franco)—a famous singer—is found dead after he hosts people at his house for an after-party. The series will consist of eight episodes, with each one showing a different character’s perspective of what really went down that night. The classmates are all suspects and they all seem to have a motive for wanting to push Xavier off a cliff, and each episode will bring viewers closer to finding out who the real murderer is, while also learning more about each of the party’s attendees.  Tiffany Haddish will star in the murder-mystery show as Detective Danner, who is on the case investigating Xavier’s murder. The comedian is joined by other familiar faces like Love Life’s Zoë Chao as Zoë, Ted Lasso’s Sam Richardson as Aniq, The Mindy Project’s Ike Barinholtz as Brett. Parks and Recreation’s Ben Schwartz as Yasper, Broad City’s Ilana Glazer as Chelsea, and more.

'The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window'

When: Friday, Jan. 28

Where: Netflix

The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window is one hell of a title for a show, but thankfully, the premise for Netflix’s latest limited series is a lot more straightforward. The show tells the story of a heartbroken woman named Anna (Kristen Bell), who sits inside her house staring out the window while sipping on wine as life outside happens without her involvement. Things start getting better for her when an attractive neighbor (Tom Riley) moves in next door to her with his young daughter, which somehow gives Anna hope that things are picking up for her. The hope quickly fades away when she believes she witnessed a murder while she was looking out her window. The premise is similar to last year’s The Woman in the Window starring Amy Adams, which is also about another woman who can’t seem to mind her damn business. The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window leans more toward satire but promises to keep the same energy as any psychological thriller that keeps you guessing about how the story will unfold. The show also stars Michael Ealy, Mary Holland, Shelley Hennig, Cameron Britton, Christina Anthony, and Benjamin Levy Aguilar and was executive-produced alongside Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Brittney Segal for Gloria Sanchez Productions. All eight episodes are available to stream now.

When: Jan. 28

Where: Freeform and Hulu

The eighth and final season of ABC’s black-ish has already started and while that might be sad to hear for show’s fans, Zoey Johnson’s adventures on the spin-off grown-ish will continue. The second part of the Freeform show’s fourth season kicked off this week, and this season promises to deliver more drama, more laughs, and more growth for the show’s characters as they quickly approach graduation. Fans have been following the show since Zoey’s crew started their freshman year at Cal-U, and they are all now preparing for a post-college life that sees them figuring out their career moves, moving out of the country to pursue graduate degrees, and seeing where their relationships stand now that they’ll be leaving campus soon. The coming of age show’s creator and executive producer Kenya Barris has managed to accurately portray that short moment in a person’s life where they are teetering between being carefree teenagers and adults with responsibilities, who quickly realize things won’t always go exactly as they envisioned them. If you have yet to watch grown-ish, head to Hulu now to catch up and tune in for new episodes on Freeform every Thursday.
