There's nothing more embarrassing than getting caught up thanks to Facebook. A woman in Washington learned about her husband's second wife thanks to the social media network's "People You May Know" feature, which showed a photo of 42-year-old Alan O'Neill with his second wife next to their wedding cake. She immediately alerted the authorities, and O'Neill was charged with bigamy.
According to O'Neill's attorney, he asked a neighbor to file his divorce paperwork, which never happened. The incredibly responsible O'Neill failed to follow up on the process. So, when he and his second wife were married, he was technically still married to his first one. His second marriage has since been annulled, by the way.
His lawyer says the Pierce County corrections officer is "extremely embarrassed and remorseful," and even his soon-to-be ex-wife wrote a letter to the court saying that O'Neill had suffered enough simply due to public humiliation. He was sentenced to a year of probation, and his job status is still up in the air.
