After a 68-23 vote last Friday, the Tennessee House of Representatives has passed a bill that basically prevents kids from showing any sort of physical affection for each other because it might segue into sex. Known as the “Gateway Sexual Activity Bill,” it bans teachers and “outside groups” from allowing anything that could lead to the inevitable: kids getting it in.

The controversial bill, which the state Senate backed earlier this month, has been criticized because it’s entirely too vague. It also puts pressure on teachers, who could be sued by parents for not being all hard-body about stopping the “gateway activity.”

Instead of trying to control these kids and shove abstinence down their throats, wouldn’t it be easier and more practical to educate them about the realities of sex and trust that you’ve done a good job?
