A teen in India who developed a rare tumor which left him with hundreds of extra teeth finally had them removed during a lengthy procedure.
According to the BBC, Ashik Gavai, 17, underwent a seven-hour operation that doctors say required a hammer and chisel to remove the excess teeth. "Ashik's malaise was diagnosed as a complex composite odontoma where a single gum forms lots of teeth. It's a sort of benign tumor," Dr. Sunanda Dhiware told the BBC.
Dhiware added that once it was open, hundreds of " little pearl-like teeth" began falling out—232, to be exact. Following the surgery, Gavai now has 28 teeth and far less pain.
