According to a recent Gallup survey, D.C. has the largest percentage of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender residents in the country. Ten percent of the District's residents identify themselves as LGBT, which is twice as much as the runner-up, Hawaii. Maryland and Virginia have 3.3 and 2.9 percent respectively, while North Dakota has just 1.7.
Gallup's survey was composed of over 200,000 interviews that took place between June and December 2012. Gallup calls it "the largest single study of the distribution of the LGBT population in the U.S. on record." Here's what they had to say about their findings:
