Authorities say gunfire has been reported at a high school near Portland, Ore. this morning.
The Associated Press reports that authorities responded to reports of gunfire at Reynolds High School in Troutdale, Ore., which took place around 8 a.m. this morning. The school is currently under lockdown.
Authorities in Troutdale say the suspect is dead and the threat has been neutralized:
No information about other victims has been released. The Associated Press adds that students were evacuated from the school and will be taken to a supermarket parking lot to meet with their parents.
Police report that a student was killed by the gunman. "The student has died," Troutdale Police Chief Scott Anderson told the Associated Press, adding that he was "very, very sorry for the family."
UPDATE: The shooter has been identified as 15-year-old Jared Michael Padgett, a freshman at Reynolds High School. According to Troutdale Police Chief Scott Anderson, Padgett used an AR-15 during the attack, but was also armed with a semi-automatic handgun, nine loaded magazines, and hundreds of additional rounds of ammunition.
The victim has been identified as 14-year-old Emilio Hoffman, and teacher Todd Rispler also suffered minor injuries after a bullet grazed him.
Padgett reportedly fled to the bathroom and committed suicide after being confronted by police.
