Officials say extremist group Boko Haram abducted 60 women and girls, as well at least 30 boys from a Nigerian village over the weekend.

According to the New York Times, the kidnappings reportedly took place in Kummabza on Saturday. The Times adds that witnesses identified Boko Haram as the abductors, but notes that authorities in Nigeria have yet to confirm the kidnappings.

Furthermore, Boko Haram has taken responsibility for the kidnappings of more than 270 girls from Chibok in April. In exchange for their safe return, the militants wants the government to release members who have been taken prisoner, though Nigerian President Jonathan Goodluck has declined to do so.

The Nigerian government claims to know the location of the hundreds of kidnapped girls, but is hesitant to launch a rescue initiative out of fear for their safety.
