Yesterday, a grand jury in New York City heard evidence in the case of Eric Garner, the Staten Island man who died after an NYPD officer subdued him with a chokehold.
Garner, 43, was killed after Officer Daniel Pantaleo applied the prohibited move on Jul. 17. Two weeks later, the city medical examiner ruled his death a homicide. According to the Associated Press, Pantaleo's attorney anticipates it will take a month at the very least before the grand jury decides whether or not to charge his client.
"[My client] looks forward to a full, fair and thorough investigation," Stuart Long told the Associated Press.
Arguing that Pantaleo used a "takedown" as opposed to a chokehold, the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association believes the officer will not be charged.
