FedEx Indicted for Role in Prescription Drug Scam

This scam allegedly went on for a decade.

FedEx has been indicted for the company's alleged participation in a prescription drug scam.

The Department of Justice's 15-page indictment claims that deliveries were made between 2000 and 2010 from illegal pharmacies where the lone requirement was an online form to order prescription drugs. FedEx is accused of delivering the drugs with knowledge of this, even after being warned against it by authorities.

Furthermore, prosecutors claim FedEx organized a continuous stream of deliveries, even after employees reported threats of violence against them. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, FedEx attempted to remedy this by "separating drug deliveries from problematic Internet pharmacies and holding them for pickup at company stations."

Patrick Fitzgerald, senior vice president for Fed Ex, told the Wall Street Journal that the allegations were an "attack on the integrity and good name of FedEx and its employees," which the company will fight.
